Christian Joy is an American costume designer and artist best known for her stage costume designs for Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer, Karen O. Using found articles and occasionally eschewing thread and print for glue and marker pens she has influenced contemporary fashion with punk and DIY stylings. She has has had solo shows during NYC Fashion week, at the AVA gallery in NYC, and was featured at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as part of the New York Fashion Now exhibit. In 2008 Joy began dressing UK band Klaxons and in 2009 collaborated with TopShop on three limited-edition collections. In 2011 she created the costumes for Stop the Virgens a “psycho opera” created by Karen O and KK Barrett. She has also created costumes for Santigold and Danish singer/songwriter Oh Land, principal ballerina of ABT, Isabella Boylston, and performer/choreographer, Anna Sperber. Joy has been featured in Nylon magazine, Time, New York Times magazine, ELLEgirl, who introduced her as a guru of ‘DIY’ Fashion, and Time Out New York, who featured Joy on the cover of their Most Stylish New Yorkers issue.
