Born in London, experimental filmmaker, photographer and musician Mark Borthwick became well known for his award winning avant-garde fashion photography. His perceptive and seemingly effortless images evoke the satisfactions of home, family and harmony with nature. Borthwick worked with Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos to create the cover of the band’s album, “Gossamer”. In the same vein, Cat Power fans will recall the film Borthwick made with Chan Marshall “Speaking for Trees.” Borthwick writes and performs his own music under the moniker Will Shine (the sound somewhere between neo-gypsie and a Midsummer’s Night Dream). Editorially, Mark Borthwick has shot for Purple, Pop and Vogue magazines. His mixed feelings towards the fashion industry are best described by the title of his mid-career monograph “Not in Fashion.” Give him the pyramidical silence of a strawberry field and he’s happy.
