If this Mark Borthwick image looks familiar, then it’s very likely you saw the cover of Passion Pit’s new album “Gossamer.” Mark worked with the band’s frontman Michael Angelakos to arrive at a picture as romantic and meandering as the group’s electro-pop sound. In the same vein, Cat Power fans will recall the film Borthwick made with Chan Marshall “Speaking for Trees,” available now via Netflix. He also writes and performs his own music under the moniker Will Shine (the sound somewhere between neo-gypsie and a Midsummer’s Night Dream). Editorially, Mark Borthwick has shot for Purple, Pop and Vogue magazines. His mixed feelings towards the fashion industry are best described by the title of his mid-career monograph “Not in Fashion.” Give him the pyramidical silence of a strawberry field and he’s happy.
