One of the most celebrated contemporary artists whose practice is as immersive as it is provocative, Bjarne Melgaard is currently participating  in The Avant-Garde Won’t Give Up: Cobra and Its Legacy, an exhibition at Blum & Poe Gallery in Los Angeles. Previous exhibitions were held at Luxembourg & Dayan and Gavin Brown’s enterprise. Earlier this year Melgaard had a major museum show in Oslo, Norway, which paired his work with the famous Edvard Munch who created the famous painting “The Scream.” Senior art critic and columnist for New York magazine Jerry Saltz says, “Melgaard’s art comes across as something much closer to need itself, something manically important he’s trying to get at, even if he knows that in our oversaturated, defensively cynical moment that this is almost impossible.” Bjarne Melgaard has participated in the Venice (2011), Lyon (2013) and Whitney (2014) Biennials.
